All work and no play makes Lenny a dull boy. I like watching movies, creating videos, reading and cooking. I stay active by running and playing hockey all year round. When I'm not doing that I like to shred a little on the guitar.

Knots Music Video

I worked with the band Connoisseur Casino to create and concept a music video for their song Knots. Having some prior video production experience, I concepted shot, produced and edited the music video. Editing was all done in Final Cut and Motion. It was important to make sure the video stayed true to the personality of the band, which are a great group of guys who are talented and a lot of fun to work with.

Bear Ninja Cowboy

I'm sure everyone has played rock, paper scissors. Bear Ninja Cowboy is way more fun. For a level 2 flash assignment I was inspired to create a mini game that showed I was able to use actionscripting. This was a great opportunity to create a variation and showcase some simple actionscripting.

98 Media logo design

As part of the UBC Multimedia Certificate program I had an intensive Visual Design course to complete. One of the assignments was to create a logo design. I chose to create a design for my own media company 98 Media. It incorporates all the elements of a good logo: size and colour independant and simple. I'm very proud of how it this design turned out. This assignment definitely emphasized and taught me about how important simplicity is in design.

Hockey Gold Web Page Mockups

The other major assignnment for the Visual Design course component was to create a 3 page website mockup for a client. The client chose a hockey wholesale website. Utilizing my background in e-commerce I designed a site that would be compelling visually while taking into account all the usability aspects that would be needed for a successful e-commerce retailer.

This is Page 2 of the Hockeygold.com website mockup. Arguably this is the most important page on any retail website. It's the product detail page that customers will spend the most time on researching and deciding if they would like to buy the product. I emphasized large prices, product images and buy buttons to ensure the customer clearly sees a visually compelling call to action. The tabs emphasize all the other information the customer would need when researching a product.

Page 3 of the hockeygold.com website mockup is the shopping cart page. This is also an extremely important page to design for simplicity and user interface. If a customer leaves this page you lose the sale. You must emphasize the total price, shipping and make it as clear that they are proceeding through the checkout process. Once again large buttons and clear price and product information ensure that the customer has all the information they need to make a purchasing decision.

Adobe Illustrator Tracing assignment

Using adobe illustrator, our final assignment was to be able to properly trace a detailed image to create a vector file. I chose the Johnny Canuck logo image from the Vancouver Canucks. I broke each area down into separate layers and used the pen tool to trace each section and colour it.

Photoshop Collage

Level 1 of our photoshop course emphasized skills using a variety of techniques including: filters, adjusting lights and darks, paint tools, clone stamp, healing brush and patch tools. I used these techniques on a different images and built a collage out of it. This helped to create a comfort level in photoshop that would help when we moved into the advanced stages in level 2

In photoshop level 2 the goal of this assignment was to create an entirely new image using many layers and masks. I used a variety of colour correction, filters, image masks to create a giant concert effect of my favourite band the foo fighters.

98 Media Business Card Design

Utilizing many of the lessons and skills developed, I practiced my graphic design skills by designing my own personal business cards. I incorporated many lessons from Visual design and put to use the techniques learned in Adobe Illustrator.

Articles written for Canucks.com

I was fortunate to be able to write a few articles for Canucks.com. I wrote a feature on FIN's 10th birthday as well as an article on the party on the plaza. With the rampant social media buzz and @VanCanuck 140,000+ followers on twitter, it was up to me to scour the twitterverse for the best Canuck related tweets. I picked the best from round 2 vs. Nashville with the hashtag #nashclash and #nowaysanjose for round 3.

  • Managed all sales, merchandising and promotional activity related to the weekly E-newsletter at BestBuy.ca for 2 years. Result: Successfully grew a weekly E-newsletter subscriber base over 600,000 delivering promotional and marketing messages to core online customers.

  • Drove an online Boxing Week strategy for television sales on Futureshop.ca in 2009. Created a secondary online flyer with exclusive offers to further drive online sales. Result: $11.7M revenue, +32.4% sales growth and over 30% of fiscal year sales.

  • Project managed all major Apple product launches online Best Buy e-commerce teams. Coordinated all details between stakeholders to deliver the information same day. Result: First to launch iPod in Canadian Retail market driving pre-order sales for incremental revenue.

  • Innovated new excel-based merchandising systems to monitor sales and inventory for in a simple snapshot for Best Buy e-commerce teams. Allowed for using Implemented into existing systems without spending any capital to create new ones.
